The Gonzales Committee on Cultural Affairs (GCCA) is a "sister-city" program that creates and strengthens cooperation at the municipal level, promotes cultural understanding and stimulates economic development. The GCCA allows the movement for local community development and volunteer action by motivating and empowering private citizens, municipal officials and business leaders to conduct long-term programs of mutual benefit. The name "Gonzales Committee on Cultural Affairs" was chosen to encompass the culture of the City of Gonzales - the schools, churches, businesses, and fire departments, civic and social institutions.
In the years that followed hundreds of Ascension parish residents have traveled to Meylan, France; Plannegg, Germany; and Cap Rouge, Canada promoting the Louisiana culture of bayous, magnolias, alligators, crawfish, jazz and Mardi Gras. Many lasting friendships were made with little or no interruptions and the exchange continues to this day.
